Mobile Application Development is an introductory course designed to provide students with a fundamental understanding of mobile application development, particularly using the Android platform. The course introduces the basic concepts, principles, tools, and techniques involved in designing, developing, testing, and deploying Android applications. It provides students with a practical foundation in Android programming and familiarizes them with the Android development environment, application architecture, user interface design, and application life cycle.
The course covers the essential concepts of Android programming, including project creation and management, activities, intents, layouts, views, and commonly used graphical user interface (GUI) components. Students are introduced to built-in Android widgets such as TextView, EditText, Button, ImageView, CheckBox, RadioButton, Spinner, ListView, and other interface components. Emphasis is placed on creating user-friendly and responsive interfaces using appropriate layouts and event-driven programming techniques.
Students will also learn the Android application life cycle and understand how applications respond to different states and user interactions. The course introduces fundamental programming concepts necessary for mobile application development, including variables, data types, conditional statements, loops, functions or methods, event handling, and basic object-oriented programming concepts. Students will apply these concepts in developing simple functional Android applications.
Another important component of the course is local data management. Students will be introduced to the concepts of storing, retrieving, updating, and deleting data within an Android application using appropriate local storage and database technologies. Through hands-on activities, students will develop applications that can capture user input, process information, and store data locally for future retrieval.
The course also emphasizes problem-solving, logical thinking, application design, debugging, and testing. Students will be given practical programming exercises and project-based activities that allow them to apply the concepts learned throughout the course. They will gradually progress from creating simple user interfaces to developing basic interactive applications that integrate multiple Android components and local data storage.
At the end of the course, students are expected to demonstrate the ability to explain the fundamental concepts of Android application development, create simple GUI-based Android applications, utilize built-in widgets and components, implement user interaction and event handling, understand the Android application life cycle, and work with local databases or storage mechanisms to manage application data. Students should also be able to design, develop, test, debug, and present a simple Android application that addresses a basic user or real-world requirement. The course serves as a foundation for more advanced topics in mobile application development, including advanced Android programming, API integration, cloud-based applications, mobile databases, and the development of more complex and production-ready mobile applications.

This course emphasize objective measurements and the statistical, mathematical, or numerical analysis of data collected through polls, questionnaires, and surveys, or by manipulating pre-existing statistical data using computational techniques. Quantitative Methods is just like your grade 11 Probability and Statistics subject. You will be reminded of the lessons you had before, so a part of this course is just a review but of course we will bring you to a much higher statistical analysis to make it exciting and more interesting to learn.
